what is a notary public & what does a notary public do?
A notary public in California is a person commissioned to serve the public as a neutral witness. A notary performs notarial acts that are allowed or required by law.
A notary is a verifier; an authenticator; an impartial agent for the state; a public recorder of acts; and an unbiased, official witness.
A notary’s duty is to be a neutral witness to the signing of documents. A notary makes sure that signers are who they say they are and have entered into agreements knowingly and willingly.

What type of notarization is needed if there is no certificate?
The signer will have to decide which appropriate certificate
form to use.
The most common certificates are acknowledgments and jurats
Acknowledgement
verifies the identity of the signer and confirms that they signed the document. The signer does not swear to the truthfulness or validity of the document, just simply to personally appear in front of a notary to confirm the signer's identity.
Jurats
An oath or affirmation will be administered to the signer. This oath or affirmation determines that the signer agrees the document's contents are true under the penalty of perjury.
I am not an attorney, and by law I can not suggest what type of certificate you need nor explain, interpret, advise, prepare or show you how to complete a document. Any important questions should be addressed to the lender, title company, or an attorney.
At your appointment, you will be asked to present an acceptable valid photo identification issued within the last five years. This is required in the State of California for all notarizations. Your signature & a right thumbprint will also be recorded in the Notary journal.
All information is kept confidential.
